At Nourish Me Nutrition Therapy, we focus on nutrition management and prevention of the following cardiovascular conditions:

  • disorders of lipid metabolism: hypercholesterolemia and  hypertriglyceridemia,
  • hypertension (high blood pressure),
  • heart failure,
  • cerebrovascular disease: cerebrovascular accident (ischemic or hemorrhagic) and transient ischemic attack,
  • coronary artery disease: coronary artery bypass graft  and myocardial infarction.

In heart health management of our patients, we rely on current scientific research which shows that the risk of cardiovascular events can be significantly reduced by identifying and treating modifiable factors such as

  • improving lipid profiles,
  • treating hypertension (high blood pressure),
  • managing diabetes mellitus,
  • managing obesity through weight loss and maintenance,
  • quitting smoking,
  • avoiding heavy alcohol and illegal drugs use *.

Heart health nutrition

Using an evidence based approach, our registered dietitian will work with you to build an individualized plan to manage current or prevent  future cardiovascular events.

With our nutrition therapy, you will learn how to

  • limit dietary saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, and trans fatty acids;
  • identify and include healthy fat (omega-3 and monounsaturated) sources;
  • include protective foods (vegetables and fruits, whole grains, low-fat or fat-free dairy products, total and soluble fiber, lean protein, and plant sterols and stanols) in your diet;
  • reduce daily energy intake, including reduction in excessive carbohydrates and added sugars;
  • reduce intake of salt and sodium;
  • control your weight;
  • be active for at least 30 minutes a day on most days of the week, if not contraindicated;
  • reduce alcohol consumption;
  • limit fluid intake upon need;
  • include nutrient supplementation as necessary.
